El Hato Clean Up

Cleaning Up the Community

With the goal of cleaning up the community and teaching the children not to throw out trash onto the street or the ground, on Monday, May 4, José Ignacio, the public school in El Hato, held a clean-up day featuring the participation of all the children in the school.

The clean-up project was split up by grade level so that all the areas adjoining the school could be covered. Each child took a bag for picking up trash. When each grade returned to the school, the teacher took the reports of all the children who participated. In turn, each teacher made his or her own report.

It is hoped that with this activity the children have learned to take care of the environment and to keep the streets clean. During the rainy season this should help prevent floods caused by storm drains clogged with trash.
